Mother Wound photo zine is a birds-eye view through western landscapes scared by mineral extraction, toxic mining waste, and a 23-year megadrought. It’s a series of 15 aerial photographs Russel made while on various investigative assignments throughout the Interior West and featured in articles done in collaboration with High Country News, Mother Jones and ProPublica.

The 8.5” x 11” color zine format reveals all the interesting detail in each photo, which helps tell a more nuanced story.
